Sångsällskapet DS – a Male Choir from Stockholm Founded in 1923 with 25 members, and is a very active amateur male choir from Stockholm, Sweden. We sing both traditional male chorus music (songs of spring, church music, national romantics, folk music and drinking songs) as well as contemporary music.  We arrange our own concerts in churches as well as in concert halls, just as happily co-operating with professional performers as with young prodigies or other choirs. Up to the 1950s DS was considered among the best choirs in Sweden, following a run of successful tours both at home and abroad (e.g: Hungary, Germany and the U.S.A.). It counted amongst it’s members many contemporary singing stars, such as Court Singer and Royal Opera Director Joel Berglund. Count Lennart Bernadotte (of the Royal Family) was, until his death in December 2004, the Honourable Chairman.  DS participated, by singing, in one of the first Swedish sound pictures: “Säg det i toner” (Say it in Music) in 1929. Our conductor is Anders Asp and under his capable leadership the choir DS has developed into one of Stockholm’s leading male choruses. Since 1985 he has worked as a music teacher and choir leader in Täby School of Coral Music just North of Stockholm. In that capacity he has performed over 300 concerts, toured in several European countries and has recorder 8 CDs. He has recurrent comissions as conductor for the Stockholm Choir Association, for example he leads the popular Advent Concert for the capital’s male choir singers. He also leads orchestras of many different types of music. DS Vänner is a support organisation that has been active now for a few years. It formed out of the wide and faithful circle of friends that, throughout the years, has shown their appreciation by attending our concerts and buying our records.
